SWD is a local husband and wife furniture building team. We, Kalyn & Brian Slagle, are located in the beautiful foothills of north Georgia in a little growing town named Dawsonville. Being high school sweet hearts, we've had a long time to dream about all of the things we wanted to do in our future together. One of those dreams was to design and build furniture one day, which makes it really easy to enjoy what we do. We have two little ones named Kayl and Bliss, who love to be in the wood shop building things out of scrap wood or "helping" us paint or stain. The hardest part about ordering a piece of furniture from us is deciding on which one you want! Once you have decided, contact us to give us the measurements and any other specifications you will want your piece to be built to and finished in and we will give you a quote. If you agree to our price we will then send you an invoice through PayPal for the required 50% deposit. As soon as that deposit is paid we will put your order down in the order book and purchase the supplies to build your piece. Once your piece is complete the remaining 50% balance will be required to be paid at time of pick up or delivery. And that's it! You supported local and we built you a piece that will last a lifetime!
Table Size Guide
We wanted to share this chart with our customers to give you a visual on each of our most popular table sizes. It can be difficult judging what size you need for your space as well as what will fit with your chairs. A 5ft table will fit 6 people comfortably as long as the chairs are not too large. A 6ft table will also seat 6 comfortably and has the room to fit larger chairs if needed. Our 7ft tables have the capability of seating 8 as long as the chairs are on the skinnier side. And, last but not least, our 8ft tables will seat 8+ comfortably and with any size chair. We hope this helps with your decision on table size! Of course we offer delivery to our customers! If you do not have a way of coming to pick up your one or many pieces that we have built you from our home shop in north Dawsonville, GA we have a truck, a van, and a trailer that can get the job done! One time we delivered 10 pieces of furniture at one time, taking all of it over one state line and over 450 miles, all the way to Tampa, FL! Our delivery fee depends on your location and we are happy to quote you on a delivery fee at any time! When we deliver, all of our furniture is blanketed and strapped to ensure a safe, ding free, delivery.
If you have a piece or pieces that you have ordered from us but do not feel comfortable enough to install them where they belong...don't worry! We've got this! Whether you need us to install a 135in x 104in custom built-to-fit shelving unit or hang 8 little book shelves on the wall we are more than willing and able to help. This also does have a fee though and we will again, discuss this at any time. When installing we will make sure that your item is secure, level, centered, and perfectly placed so that when we leave it is ready to be used!
One of the services we offer taking your design idea and bringing it to life by "sketching" it out. Please let us know if you would like this option before you order. This task does take a few days as our first and foremost priority is building all of our lovely pieces for our fabulous customers. This service is so that you can visualize what your custom creation will look like before it is built. Here you can see what a couple of our custom designs has looked like "sketched" out and what the piece looked like after it was built. If you have any questions let us know!
Have you seen something online or in person that you love but may not fit your space, be the color that you need to coordinate with your home, or needs some tweaking to fit your needs? You have come to the right place! Take a pic or a screen shot of the piece that you are interested in and send it to us. We will be able to tell you right away if we can replicate it to meet your needs! To the left we show you a Haverty's unit that a client of ours loved but their TV was too large to fit in it and they wanted it to be finished in a gray stain. So, we built it to fit their TV and finished it in Carbon Gray!
One of our frequently asked questions is what payment options we offer. Because we want it to be easy for all of our customers to order from us, we now offer many different ways to pay for your custom piece. We absolutely take Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards, all of which can be used when making payment on the PayPal invoice we will send you when you are ready to order. We also take PayPal, Venmo, and Square if you are a subscriber to any those companies. We do also want to let everyone know that PayPal now offers financing through PayPal Credit. If you click any of the logos to the left, we have it set up to take you straight to these payment vendor websites so that you can sign up to be a customer. What type of furniture do you build?
We specialize in building custom, solid wood, farmhouse furniture. This means that each piece of furniture we build will be a one of a kind! Due to wood differentiation and character, not one piece of furniture will be exactly like the last and will be unique with its own characteristics. We build many different style tables, living room furniture, entertainment centers, desks and office furniture, beds and bedroom furniture, barn doors, outdoor furniture and much, much more! What kind of wood do you use?
We primarily use pine. We can use other types of wood but the cost will increase depending on what type of wood you would like used for your piece. Please note that each and every individual piece of wood can vary in color, grain formation, knots, and density. Our furniture is built with 100% real, solid wood and these differences are unavoidable when using real wood.
Do you deliver?
We do offer delivery for a fee throughout all of the metro Atlanta area. Please let us know if you would like delivery as well as where you are located when inquiring so that we can add that fee into your quote.
What is your turn around time?
Custom, handmade furniture is our specialty. We don’t have a warehouse stocked full of furniture that we can ship out the door in an instant. We have a typical turn around time of 6-10 weeks although this can increase or decrease depending on the extent of your project and how many orders we have pending. We will give you a time frame when you order your piece so that you will have a window on when to expect it.
Do you have a showroom where I can see your tables?
We do not have a showroom at this time. We do however, most likely have many tables you can look at in our home shop that are in the works or just completed. If you would like to make an appointment to come take a look please contact us and we will schedule a date and time.
How do I pay for my order?
We prefer payment to be made through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account when paying an invoice sent to you through PayPal. Their invoicing system allows payment to be made with a debit or credit card as well. We also will take a check or cash as well.
How do I choose stain or paint colors?
At the top of this website you will find a "Stains" tab. That page shows all of the primary stain colors we have to offer. As far as paint colors go, we offer any paint color that Home Depot has to offer. Our advice would be to go to your local Home Depot and bring home some paint samples to decide and then let us know the name or ID of the color you have chosen.
What kind of finish do you use?
We make sure that each piece of furniture that leaves our shop has at least 2 coats of polyurethane to ensure a nice protective layer. With dining tables and eat-in tables we will put 4 coats due to heavy use.
I saw an item on your site that I like, but would like to make some modifications; can you do that??
We would love nothing more than to create you a piece that is uniquely yours! Contact us to discuss this fun project!
Do you do custom orders?
Absolutely! If you have a picture or a sketch, contact us and we can work together to make your own unique piece. However, when building a piece that we have never built before and not having a building plan, our piece will be as similar to your inspiration piece as we can build it, but may not be exact as we are not the original manufacturer.
Do you replicate furniture pieces?
Yes, we love building new furniture designs and will replicate a piece of furniture to the best of our abilities. However, when replicating a piece and not having a building plan, our piece will be as similar as we can build it, but may not be exact as we are not the original manufacturer.
Do you accept returns?
If for some reason your piece does not meet your expectations, this needs to be expressed upon delivery and immediately returned with us at that time. If you refuse acceptance of your order upon delivery, we can then make arrangements for a refund (less your deposit). By choosing to accept your order on the day of delivery you are confirming full acceptance of your order in its “as is,” unique, rustic condition… meaning you are fully satisfied to keep it forever!
Do you offer a warranty on your furniture?
We stand by our product and believe our craftsmanship and materials are superior to mass produced, imported furniture. We guarantee our product for 3 months after delivery. What is covered in our 3 month warranty- Your table is made with real wood materials. Real wood moves with the seasons and humidity. Our tables are made with the expectation that the wood will move. So, you will see some seams open and close during the change in seasons. This is expected and unavoidable. However, while it is extremely rare, we want to ensure our customers that any unappealing splitting, warping or cracking on the table top surface will be repaired or replaced. If we see that any damage is due to our craftsmanship or our material we will honor a warranty repair. What is not covered- We finish your table with the finest materials we can buy. If there is unlikely damage to the surface top coat (scratches, hot dishes, moisture rings) or color damage then we believe this falls outside of our craftsmanship and is not covered under warranty. If after 3 months you are in need of repair of your table we are happy to attempt at restoring it to its former state and bill you for the repair. If you are out of town from our shop we are happy to help you find a local furniture repair professional who will supply work just as excellent as our team.
